Fit City Chick...Fit Fit City Chick...

So suddenly getting fit, and working out is the new "cool" thing to do? It seems like lately everywhere I look people are posting pictures of their "workouts" and "healthy" food.  Don't get me wrong, I LOVE that people are getting healthy and becoming more active. BUT, I have a problem with all of these "Fitness Fakers!" I define a "Fitness Faker" as someone who has suddenly become interested in fitness just to post pics on their instagram/facebook or someone who "claims" to workout out consistently and be living a healthy lifestlye, but in real life they are downing shots, and eating fast food whenever they can!

--------------------------Are you a FITNESS FAKER?-------------------------

 If you....

1. Wear your cutest clothes to the gym because you know you have to take a picture for instagram or fb...
2. Only post pitures of the healthy foods you eat when REALLY half the time your chowing down on McDonalds fries and double cheeseburgers...
3. Rarely step foot in the gym or do any sort of regular workout...
4. Don't really care about getting healthy...
5. Put on make up and/or jewelry to workout...

Then you my friend are a FITNESS FAKER!

Even celebrities like the rapper Game and past MTV host LaLa have gotten into the fitness fad. (In Games defense he definitely looks alot better after completing his 60 Day Challenge lol) The Game has been very open about his journey to fitness through the many pictures he posts on Instagram. He generally posts daily pictures of healthy meals he eats and the workouts he completes. This is great! But, what I wonder is how many of his followers that started his 60 Day Challenge really care about their health and losing weight, or whether they are just doing it because he's a celebrity and its "cool" right now.

And since when is fitness only 60 days? I dont know about everyone else but for me this is a permanent lifestyle change. Now I dont know if I will be working out 6 days a week for the rest of my life. BUT, now that I have become active I realize how much I love it, and can't see myself NOT doing it! Once I reach my goal weight I still plan on working out atleast 3x a week. I think I hate Fitness Fakers so much because I am actually REALLY working my ass off to lose weight and get healthy. It's not easy and I don't do it to post pictures on instagram or fb. I'm on this journey for myself but hope that by blogging or posting pics maybe I can inspire someone else. What do you think about the newest group of Fitness Fakers taking over Instagram/FB?

Take a Shot For Me

Because I won't be taking any for quite awhile!! This weekend I went to Las Vegas! Yeah for me but fail for my vow to eat healthy. For the past three days I endulged in buffets, alcohol, fast food, and more alcohol lol. Now while it was fun while it lasted I am now left with a feeling of shame and remorse. I made the mistake of stepping on the scale before me and my friends left the hotel and lets just say I wanted to cry. But unlike all of the other times I'm not going to let a weekend of fun set me back! The greatest feeling in the world was being able to fit into dresses I havent worn in a year. And this is just the beginning. So YES I over indulged this weekend but my regular workout routine and healthy eating will be returning as of tomorrow!

Pulled up to the Scene with some Pounds Missin!

It's a great feeling for people to finally begin to notice my weight loss! Lately I have been getting alot of compliments on the progress I have made. Which definitely makes me feel good, BUT I'm only halfway to my goal of -50lbs. Now maybe I am over thinking this (which I have a habit of doing) but all of these compliments about my weight loss have made me feel really embarrassed at how heavy I let myself get. The fact that people notice how much weight I lost means that they had also noticed how much weight I GAINED before. Which isn't a great feeling. But hopefully this will help me to never let myself fall back into the pattern of over eating and not exercising!

Last week I upped the anty on alot of my workouts! I began to realize that things that made me exhausted before were beginning to become easy. So once again, I pushed myself.

Something I have learned about myself and working out: I can't do weight training solo! It's much to boring for me. In order for me to get in a good arm or leg workout I need someone else there to push me. I tried to go by myself last week and only lasted 15 minutes in the weight section before I was
packing up my stuff and heading home! lol

I've also realized that I am much more of an outdoors person then a gym rat. I'd much rather do a trail then be stuck on a gym machine! Maybe its the fresh air, or maybe its the scenery, but whatever it is I am glad the weather has been nice so I can do a majority of my weekly workouts outdoors.

My absolute favorite hike this past week was tackling Runyon Canyon! (For you non California people it is a trail in Hollywood that overlooks most of LA)

I was super proud of myself because the first time I did this trail I literally almost died! I didn't bring enough water and was super dehydrated by the end. I felt sick for the rest of the day and was beyond sore. This time I came prepared and made sure I had plenty of water and a great breakfast to get me going! It really helped! I was able to tackle the trail and still had energy left over after! Each time I am going to try to increase my level of difficulty by running more. (Most of the trail is on a steep incline so I mostly walk it and only jog a few parts)

Plus working out with a large group keeps me motivated and pushes me! When I see other people running it makes me push myself to run as well! I am so lucky to have people around me that are also into fitness and maintaining a healthier lifestyle!

No Days Off!!! Ok Well Maybe a Few....

So last week wasn't my best fitness week. I only worked out two times (my goal is 5x) and I had 2 cheat meals instead of 1. Now for most this isn't substantial but for me I know I have to be careful so I don't fall back into bad habits. I plan on this week being much better! I did my weekly food prep and I scheduled my daily workouts in my ipad so I will stick to my schedule! Fitness is a journey and I'm not perfect. But the important part is getting back on when you fall off!

That's that ish I DON'T like...

Heading into my third month of working towards being "fabulously fit" I have come to realize that there is alot of ISH I don't like about this fitness stuff! So I decided to do a post about the TOP FIVE things that currently drive me crazy! lol...Enjoy!

Things I DON'T LIKE:

1. Herbalife: Ok so I know I'm going to get alot of flack for this and I am not in anyway discounting anyones results who have found success on Herbalife....BUT....I'm over it! I'm tired of people assuming that it is the only way to lose weight and lead a healthy nutritous life. I have lost 25lbs by changing my eating and exercising. I didn't have to use supplements to get my results and I don't plan on it. God gave us all of the foods that we need to lead healthy lives on this planet. Adam and Eve didn't use Herbalife to get their nutrition and I don't feel like I need to either. Like I said, to each his own, BUT it is not for me. Rant over.

2. How Quickly my Fruits and Vegetables Die: Since I started buying fresh produce I've become increasingly annoyed with the fact that within two days everything is dead! I'm a busy girl and don't have time to go to the grocery store three times a week to buy produce! I have tried to avoid this by refrigerating/freezing/ and keeping my fruits and veggies in a cool place. BUT once again, if you don't use it you will lose it!

3. Being Sore: Yeah yeah yeah, everyone says that being sore is supposed to be a badge of honor. Well all I know is that it SUCKS! Walking around my job limping and barely being able to sit/stand/laydown comfortably is NOT enjoyable.

4. Fitness Know-It-Alls: So it seems like suddenly everyone is an expert on fitness and getting in shape! No offense but just because you played a sport in high school or lost alot of weight on a particular plan/diet doesn't mean that you can tell ME how to get healthy. I am totally open to suggestions and hearing people's stories BUT, everyone's body is different and everyone's journey to fitness is different. There is no one way to get fit and healthy. This may seem hypocritical as I am blogging about getting in shape, BUT the difference with my blog is that I am not telling people WHAT to do or HOW to do it. I'm merely letting people see what I have done and decide on their own what they choose to do or not do in their own journey to fitness.

5. Females/Males that Go to the Gym to See and Be Seen: This is like my biggest pet peeve at the gym right now! I CANNOT STAND females/dudes that decide to go to the gym in their little outfits just to walk around and take up space on machines that they aren't really using! I go to the gym to workout NOT to pick up a date, socialize, or walk the runway! It's SO annoying!!

What are some of your biggest fitness pet peeves?? Please share!

Make it Tasty: Weekly Food Prep

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE food!! Did I mention I LOVE food? Because I do! I have been doing alot of experimenting with my weekly food prep. I am trying to incorporate flavor without adding all of the extra calories. Now I will be honest, some of my creations have been pretty nasty....lol...BUT some of them turned out pretty good! Below are the ones that turned out good! lol...

So eating healthy is REALLY expensive. Thus, I do my best to try to purchase produce and veggies when they are on sale or from the 99 Cent Store. (YES they DO have good veggies and produce! It's worth checking out if you are on a budget but want to still eat healthy) So this week I picked up some broccoli, brussel sprouts, chives, and boneless/skinless chicken breast.

I started off by marinating the chicken breast with two tablespoons of olive oil. I then chopped up chives, and onions and seasoned the chicken well. I set the oven for 350 degrees and baked the chicken for approxamitely 30 minutes.

I then washed and chopped up the broccoli as well as the brussel sprouts.

I added a tablespoon of olive oil to my pan and sauteed the chives prior to adding my cut up brussel sprouts. I then seasoned it with garlic seasoning and some good old Lawry's and cooked until it was tender. By the time all of my veggies were done my chicken was also complete.

Once everything cooled down I separated my food into my tuperware for the week! It made so much that I had enough for 5 meals! Everything total only cost me $7.00. Who said eating healthy can't be affordable!? And YES, everything turned out great! The chicken was tender and juicy, and the brussel sprouts and broccoli both had a great flavor. I will definitely be making something like this again for m weekly food prep!

What are cool meals you have adapted to keep your food prep interesting for the week???

At the Gym Straight Flexxin!

For those of you that were worried no I did not die and no I did not fall off the wagon! I am still hitting my fitness hardcore! I just haven't had time to blog lately, but I'm back! With a new hair-do and a new drive to achieve my weight loss goals! I am still working out 5x a week and am thinking of increasing it to 6x a week.

WEIGHT UPDATE: So as of today (3/5/13) I have officially lost 23lbs!!! I started this journey on January 1st and have stuck to it since then. My ultimate goal is -50lbs and I am so stoked that I am almost half way there in only two months! Of course I know that as I lose more weight it is going to start to get harder, but it's ok because I am seeing progress! My clothes are feeling looser and I notice that I have more energy. This alone is a major score for me. Since I am able to do more I have started to increase my workouts.

I won't get off of a machine at the gym till I burn ATLEAST 300 calories. I try to burn a minimum of 600 calories each time I workout. I have also started incorporating "two-a-days" in which I work out in the morning and in the evening. (I do this atleast twice a week).

Of course I am in no way a fitness fanatic, BUT I am trying! (And that's what counts right?) BTW check out my cute Nike gloves I got for when I lift weights. They were only $6.00 from Ross! lol...

So it has been awhile but I am back to bike riding! My fixed gear has a new look and a new name (She used to be called Trixie the Fixie, but now she's called the Black Widow) As always I utilized my close friends for motivation to get out and exercise! They keep me going and I am lucky to have so many people in my life who are willing to work out with me!

So I PROMISE I am going to start posting more! So until then have a great day and GO WORKOUT! lol
